Explore the artistic, bohemian soul of Barranco on this 3-hour walking tour. Stroll charming streets full of history, vibrant murals, and 19th- and 20th-century architecture, with a coffee break and visits to local artisan shops along the way, uncovering the stories behind Lima’s most creative district.
Suitable for all ages.
We meet at 14:00 on Av. Pedro de Osma 102 in Barranco, at the Starbucks, and finish around 17:00 in the same district, near the Malecon Saenz Pena. There is no hotel pickup, so allow time to get to Barranco: it is roughly 15 to 25 minutes by taxi from Miraflores depending on traffic, and slightly longer from San Isidro.
Three hours on foot at a relaxed pace, with stops for stories and photos throughout. The one section that takes some effort is the Bajada de Banos, the old path down towards the sea, which means a descent and a climb back up on uneven ground and steps. Everything else is flat street walking.
Your bilingual guide and a coffee break partway through, taken while your guide fills in the history of the district. Meals and personal expenses are not included. The tour ends at 17:00, which puts you in Barranco right as its bars and restaurants open, so many people stay on for dinner.
Different things. The bike tour covers 16 km through both Miraflores and Barranco, so it is about coastline and distance. This walking tour stays inside Barranco and goes deeper: the murals, the artisan workshops, the architecture, the stories behind the Puente de los Suspiros. If you want to understand one district rather than see two, take this one.
From May to November Lima sits under the garua, a grey coastal overcast that keeps things cool and damp without raining properly, so bring a light jacket for the afternoon. December to April is sunny and humid, and the walk along the clifftop gets real sun exposure. Comfortable shoes matter either way, since the streets are cobbled in places.
