For a first trip, 8 to 10 days covers Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu at a comfortable pace. With 12 to 15 days you can add Lake Titicaca and Arequipa, or 3 to 4 days in the Amazon.
May to September is the dry season in the Andes, with sunny days and cold nights. November to March brings rain, and the Inca Trail closes every February for maintenance. The Amazon and the coast can be visited all year.
