FAQ's

Do I need experience to ride the ATV?

No. The tour is built for beginners: before setting off you get a safety briefing and instructions on handling the machine, and your guide leads the group at a comfortable pace on rural tracks rather than open road. If you have never driven one, say so at the briefing and the guide will keep an eye on you through the first stretch.

Which entrance fees do I pay on the day?

Two, both in cash and in soles: S/ 10 at the Maras salt ponds and S/ 6 at Huaypo Lake. Neither is included in the tour price, and there is nowhere to pay by card, so bring small notes. This tour does not require the Cusco Tourist Ticket.

What should I wear for the ATV ride?

Closed shoes, long trousers and a jacket you do not mind getting dusty. The tracks are dry and dusty most of the year and muddy between November and April, and the wind on the machine makes it feel colder than it is. Sunglasses are genuinely useful here, both against the sun and the dust, along with sunscreen and a hat for the stops.

What time do the tours leave?

There are two departures: a morning one with pickup at 07:00, returning around 13:00, and an afternoon one with pickup at 13:00, returning around 18:00. Six hours door to door either way. The morning departure has clearer light on the salt ponds; the afternoon one is usually quieter at both sites.

What happens if the weather turns bad?

If conditions make the ride unsafe and we have to cancel, you get a full refund. Rain in the Andes tends to be brief rather than all day, so we would usually contact you the evening before or the morning of to agree whether to go ahead, move the departure or cancel outright.
