FAQ's

Which entrance tickets do I need, and how much cash should I bring?

Two payments on the day, both in cash and in soles: the Cusco Tourist Ticket, which is what gets you into Chinchero, Moray, Ollantaytambo and Pisac, and S/ 10 at the gate of the Maras salt ponds. There is no individual ticket for the Inca sites, so the Tourist Ticket is the only way in, and the version you need depends on how many sites you plan to visit during your stay. Tell us your itinerary when you book and we will confirm the exact amount before your tour.

How long is the day, and how much walking is involved?

Hotel pickup is at 06:30 and you are back in Cusco around 18:30. The walking is split across five stops rather than one long hike, and the steepest section is the terraces at Ollantaytambo. Nothing is technical, but it adds up over twelve hours, so comfortable shoes matter more than anything else you pack.

Is this a good tour for my first days in Cusco?

Yes, one of the best. Most of the Sacred Valley lies lower than the city: Urubamba sits at around 2,900 m against Cusco at 3,399 m, so you spend the day at a gentler altitude instead of climbing higher. Many travellers use this day to acclimatise before Rainbow Mountain or Humantay Lake later in the week.

Is lunch included, and can you cater for special diets?

A buffet lunch in Urubamba is included, served around 11:00 between Moray and Ollantaytambo. Vegetarian meals and other special diets can be arranged if you tell us when you book. Drinks are not included, and it is worth carrying water for the earlier stops at Chinchero and Maras.

Can I bring children on this tour?

Yes, and families do it often. There is no minimum age, but bear in mind it is a twelve-hour day and the archaeological sites involve uneven stone steps and steep terraces, so very young children tend to tire by the last stop. On the Tourist Ticket, children under 10 do not pay and those aged 10 to 17 pay a student rate with ID.
