The real Peru trip cost is about USD 1,200 to 1,500 per person for one week and USD 1,800 to 2,200 for two weeks, with 3 to 4-star hotels, guided tours, Machu Picchu and domestic flights. Your international flight comes on top.

I live in Lima and price these trips every week. The numbers below come from our published itineraries and from real quotes we sent this year for trips in 2027, not from a cost calculator. Prices are per person, for two travelers sharing a room.

Quick answer

  • 1 week (8 days): about USD 1,200 to 1,500 per person, mid-range.
  • 2 weeks (14 days): about USD 1,800 to 2,200 per person.
  • Per day: roughly USD 130 to 190 per person for hotels, tours and flights, plus meals.
  • Luxury week (private guides, 5-star hotels like the JW Marriotts): about USD 2,300 to 2,700 per person, more with Belmond.
  • Not included: international flights, most meals, tips and insurance.

Peru Trip Cost by Length of Stay

Here is where that money goes, using our two most popular routes:

Per person 1 week (8 days) 2 weeks (14 days)
Tours, transfers and Machu Picchu From USD 719 From USD 1,016
Domestic flights USD 195 to 320 USD 210 to 340
Hotels, 3 to 4-star USD 300 to 430 USD 550 to 800
Total USD 1,200 to 1,500 USD 1,800 to 2,200

Hotel figures are your half of a double room with breakfast, at the rates we quoted in 2026 for 2027 trips. Flight ranges go from carry-on only to a checked bag with a refundable fare.

How Much Does a 1-Week Trip to Peru Cost?

A 1-week trip to Peru costs about USD 1,200 to 1,500 per person for two travelers on our 8-day route through Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, with 3 to 4-star hotels and domestic flights included.

The base trip, our 8-day Peru itinerary, starts at USD 719 per person. That covers airport pickups, private tours in Lima, group tours in Cusco and the Sacred Valley, a private transfer to your Sacred Valley hotel, and the whole Machu Picchu day: train, bus, entrance and guide.

Add the Lima to Cusco round trip, about USD 195 with carry-on only or USD 320 with a checked bag and a refundable fare, and seven hotel nights, about USD 300 to 430 per person. That gets you to USD 1,200 to 1,500.

Only have a few days and flying straight to Cusco? Our 4-day Cusco and Machu Picchu itinerary starts at USD 469 per person before hotels and flights.

How Much Does a 2-Week Trip to Peru Cost?

A 2-week trip to Peru costs about USD 1,800 to 2,200 per person on our 14-day route through Lima, Arequipa, the Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca, Cusco and Machu Picchu, with 3 to 4-star hotels and two domestic flights.

The 14-day Southern Peru itinerary starts at USD 1,016 per person for tours and transfers. The flights are Lima to Arequipa (about USD 112 to 182) and Cusco to Lima (about USD 95 to 157). The rest of the route goes overland, which is also what makes the altitude easier (see the route order for acclimatization in Peru). Thirteen hotel nights add about USD 550 to 800 per person.

A real example: a couple we quoted this year for 15 days in July 2027, Lima to Lima, with Paracas, the Colca and Lake Titicaca in group tours and private guides in Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu, came to USD 1,876 per person with hotels and transfers. With their two domestic flights, that’s about USD 2,100 to 2,200, the top of the range. If two weeks is tight, the 12-day version of the same route starts at USD 853.

How Much Do Hotels Cost in Peru?

A good 3 or 4-star hotel in Lima or Cusco costs about USD 80 to 120 a night for a double room with breakfast, and a 5-star costs USD 230 to 670. These are rates we quoted travelers in 2026:

City 3 to 4-star, double room
Lima (Miraflores) USD 78 to 94
Cusco (historic center) USD 95 to 117
Sacred Valley USD 50 to 210
Arequipa About USD 100
Colca Canyon (Chivay) About USD 120
Puno, Lake Titicaca (4-star) From about USD 160

For 5-star, public rates in 2026 run about USD 230 to 310 at the Hilton and JW Marriott in Miraflores, around USD 580 to 670 at Belmond’s Miraflores Park, and about USD 260 to 380 at the JW Marriott El Convento in Cusco, plus a destination fee of about USD 41 a night (Hotels.com and Kayak listings).

One money-saver most travelers miss: foreign tourists staying in Peru 60 days or less don’t pay the 18% IGV sales tax on hotel rooms, as long as they show their passport and entry record at check-in and the invoice is in their name. It doesn’t apply to Peruvian residents. Make sure the hotel applies it.

How Much Are Domestic Flights in Peru?

A domestic flight in Peru costs about USD 95 to 155 per person one way on the main tourist routes, and Lima to Cusco round trip costs about USD 195 with carry-on only or USD 320 with a checked bag and a refundable fare.

Those are fares we booked for travelers in 2026, on LATAM and similar carriers. The cheap fares rarely include a checked bag, and you’ll want one for two weeks of mixed weather.

We can book your domestic flights inside Peru as part of your trip. Your international flight you book yourself.

Which Costs Are the Same However You Travel?

Machu Picchu is the biggest fixed cost of a Peru trip, the one that doesn’t change with your hotel or travel style: about USD 270 to 310 per person from Cusco if you book every piece yourself, or USD 329 on our full-day tour with meals.

The entrance is S/ 163 (about USD 48) for foreign adults since May 2026, sold only on the Ministry of Culture’s official ticket site, tuboleto.cultura.pe. The train from Ollantaytambo adds about USD 140 to 150 round trip in standard class on PeruRail or Inca Rail, and the bus up and down is USD 24. Our Machu Picchu trip cost guide breaks it down line by line.

Then there are the site tickets that no package includes because you pay them at the gate:

  • Boleto Turístico del Cusco: S/ 130 (about USD 39) for foreign adults, valid 10 days. It covers Sacsayhuamán, Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray and other sites around Cusco.
  • Colca Canyon ticket: S/ 70 for foreign visitors.
  • Taquile Island on Lake Titicaca: S/ 15.

How Much More Does a Private Trip Cost?

Going fully private adds about USD 220 per person to our 8-day route for two travelers, roughly 30% more on the tour part. With 3 to 4-star hotels, a private week usually lands around USD 1,450 to 1,700 per person.

Private means your own guide and vehicle on every tour. The Machu Picchu train and the bus up to the citadel stay shared for everyone, because that’s how they operate. On our routes, the Lima tours are already private in the base price.

This matters because some guides online put a private Peru trip at USD 5,000 to 10,000 per person. That’s possible with top hotels and a luxury train, but it isn’t what a private trip usually costs.

Traveling alone? A single traveler pays more per person, because a guide and car cost the same for one or two, and you pay the whole hotel room instead of half, which roughly doubles the hotel line. Our 8-day route starts at USD 845 for one traveler before hotels, and this guide to solo travel in Peru explains how to keep it reasonable.

What Costs Do People Forget to Budget?

The costs people forget are the small, daily ones: meals, tips, site tickets and checked bags. Meals alone run about USD 30 to 50 per person a day.

  • Meals: lunch menus in Cusco are cheap, but a good dinner in Lima isn’t. Our tip is to budget the upper end if you care about food.
  • Tips for guides and drivers, in cash.
  • Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain: a separate, pricier ticket that sells out first.
  • A night in Aguas Calientes if you want to enter Machu Picchu early.
  • Checked bags on domestic flights.
  • Travel insurance, which we always recommend for the altitude.

How Can You Save Without Cutting the Highlights?

The easiest savings in Peru come from logistics, not from skipping places: group tours in Cusco, the right hotel location and the right flight fare.

  • Group tours in Cusco, private in Lima: about USD 220 per person less than fully private on our 8-day route.
  • Sleep in the Sacred Valley: hotels there start lower than in central Cusco, and the night before Machu Picchu is closer to the train.
  • Carry-on fares on domestic flights save around USD 120 per person on Lima to Cusco and back, if you can pack light.
  • 12 days instead of 14 on the southern route: from USD 853 instead of USD 1,016.

What doesn’t save money is waiting. Machu Picchu tickets have a daily cap and sell out two to three months ahead in high season, as we explain in how to buy Machu Picchu tickets.

Peru is mid-priced. Hotels and food cost less than in the US, but Machu Picchu is expensive: the entrance, train and bus add up to about USD 215 per person before a guide.

How much does a trip to Peru cost per day?

About USD 130 to 190 per person a day, mid-range, counting hotels, tours, Machu Picchu and domestic flights. Meals and tips add roughly USD 30 to 50 per person a day.

How much cash should I bring to Peru?

If your tours and hotels are prepaid, around USD 30 to 50 per person a day in soles covers meals, tips and small tickets. The Boleto Turístico in Cusco is usually paid in cash.

Does the price of a Peru tour include international flights?

No. Tour and package prices in Peru almost never include international flights. We can book your domestic flights inside Peru as part of the trip.

How far ahead should I book a Peru trip?

At least two months ahead, and three or more for June to August, because Machu Picchu entrances and good train times sell out first.
